Yesterday, after much speculation as to his future, Brazilian attacking midfielder phenom, Kaka (or Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite) finally transferred to Spanish club Real Madrid from Inter Milan for the second highest transfer ever of €68 million.
Seeing as how their arch-rivals Barcalona just pulled off the ‘treble’ (La Liga, Copa del rey, Champions League), making themselves the best team in the world, Real Madrid has been struggling in comparison, hence the massive purchase of the FIFA 2007 Player of the Year.
But apparently, Real Madrid aren’t finished their off-season shopping.
Also rumored to be in the club’s sights are Christiano Ronaldo of Manchester United, and Franck Ribery of Bayern Munich, either of whom paired up with Kaka in the middle would pose a massive threat to any other team in the world.
New York State’s poor excuse for a Democratic Party further solidified what we already knew, that many of our elected officials are incapable of governing. A coup was successfully implemented to transfer power from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party with hopes of major issues finally being addressed in Albany.
Senators Pedro Espada Jr. of the Bronx and Hiram Monserrate of Queens give Republicans a 32-30 edge in the chamber after playing political Judas and selling out the majority leader Malcolm Smith. Smith’s inadequate leadership skills and his handling of the budget crisis in Albany were said to be the deciding factors for the two who many are now calling “Demorats” not Democrats. David Patterson called the recent events in the states capitol “despicable.”
All details of the coup are going to be examined carefully to determine whether or not the change in leadership was indeed within a lawful realm. Both Espada and Monserrate have gained negative publicity recently, one for issues of ethics and the other for domestic violence. This was the first time since 1965 that the Democratic party gained control of the house and they turn around and give it right back to the Republicans this is definitely a major embarrassing moment for the Democratic party in Albany.
Al Gore educated the world about global warming in his Emmy-award winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Now journalist Charles Clover is dishing out the inconvenient truth about the effects that over-fishing is having on the population of fish in today’s oceans via his documentary The End of the Line.
In the film, Clover takes a look at how industrial fishing is emptying the seas of fish at a cataclysmal pace and threatening the livelihoods of poor fishermen in underdeveloped countries such as Africa and in the process killing wildlife.
According to the films makers, “High-tech fisheries now trawl the oceans with nets the size of football fields. Species cannot survive at the rate they are being removed from the sea… Ninety percent of the big fish in our oceans are now gone.”
This film is sure to change how we think about seafood. The End of the Line is now in selected theatres. Check out the trailer.
Here’s music from unsigned independent R&B artist Lafonda. The Bronx Bombshell is releasing her new EP, Don’t Need a Cosign, on August 18. Here now though is her lead single also titled “Don’t Need a Cosign.”
Here’s a preview of the battle between boxers Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey next week, June 13th, in what should be a tough welterweight fight. Cotto (33-1, 27 KO) will be defending his WBO title at the “Mecca of Boxing,” Madison Square Garden on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade.
Clottey (34-2, 20 KO), of Ghana, is going to be Cotto’s stiffest test since returning to the ring after his only lost to Antonio Margarito, a loss that has been tainted by the Mexican’s cheating ways.
I have Cotto beating Clottey by unanimous decision in what is sure to be a battle of wits. Here’s what boxing trainer Freddie Roach thinks.
Now check out the some of the fighters’ highlights.
The bodies of passengers aboard the Air France airplane which fell from the skies over the Atlantic Ocean have begun to rise to the sea’s surface as Brazilian authorities continue to search the area they believe the plane crashed.
According to the Associated Press, six bodies have been retrieved since the ill-fated Flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed last Saturday with 228 people on board. Officials suspect that inconsistent airspeed readings by external instruments during sever thunderstorms lead to the tragedy.
Brazilian Air Force Col. Henry Munhoz refuse to reveal how far apart the bodies had been found, and left it to French authorities to comment on the possibility that the locations of the bodies could help determine whether the plane broke up in the air. All 228 persons on board are presumed dead.
Shortly after the attacks of 9/11 Clear Channel sent around a memo to all of their radio stations detailing 166 songs they wanted banned from radio play because the songs where deemed to be “lyrically questionable.”
Among the songs listed in the memo include four Beatles’ songs such as “A Day in the Life” and “Ticket to Ride,” Black Sabbath’s anti-war song “War Pigs,” and even the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.”
