Though she’s usually associated with outlandish outfits, pop star Lady Gaga has now put her bizarre twist on a pair of headphones.

Heartbeats by Lady Gaga” are actually part of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphone collection from Monster Cable that was launched earlier this year.

Varieties include metal with either a red jewel-shaped earpiece or a chrome jewel-shaped earpiece and a black-on-black body with a jewel-shaped earpiece. They’re expected to be sold around $120 a pop.

Diablo Royale

Artist: Diablo Royale
Genre: Rock/Metal

Ear throbbing, hard-hitting Rock ‘n’ Roll is you will experience at a Diablo Royale performance. Surprisingly, the New York City band vocals are more stylized than the average “cookie monster” vocals most metal groups utilize in their music.

Diablo Royale’s “in-your-face” attitude activates any crowd and the energy exuded is strong enough for Con Edison to measure in watts. Since the five-member band assembled, they have become one of the hottest rock groups on the New York City circuit. They are frequent players at such venues like Sullivan Hall, Crash Mansion, Arlene’s Grocery and Blender Theater.

Last Fall, Diablo Royale went back to the lab and recorded their latest release Greedy Dogs, receiving good reviews. With the release, the band is looking forward to making the transition regional to national.

Scribe Culture recently took time out to interview the members of Diablo Royale for our Indie Spotlight.

The inspiration behind one of The Beatles greatest hits has passed away. Lucy Vodden, who was the sole inspiration behind the band’s classic song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” has died at 46-years-old after succumbing to lupus in London.

Vodden became the motivation of the song after John Lennon’s son, Julian, came home from school one day with a drawing of his then classmate and said it was “Lucy in the sky with diamonds.”

Critics have long believed that the song was a reference to the use of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). Vodden was not much of a fan of the song, although she was aware she was the Lucy.

In June she told the AP, “I don’t relate to the song – to that type of song. As a teenager, I made the mistake of telling a couple of friends at school that I was the Lucy in the song and they said, ‘No, it’s not you, my parents said it’s about drugs… I didn’t know what LSD was at the time, so I just kept it quiet, to myself.”

If you’ve never heard the song or seen the video it’s a crying shame. Nonetheless, here it is:

Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and all around knock-out Alicia Keys is back with her first single, “Doesn’t Mean Anything,”off of her still-untitled, much anticipated album. Riding over a mid-tempo beat, the song touches on a long lost love Keys yearns for.

“The sound of it is very different — it almost feels like you’re flying. It takes you there. It has that piano, heavy-drum feeling,” Keys recently told MTV. But you be the judge; listen in and let us know what you think:

Those Chosen

Artist: Those Chosen

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

In a musical genre that was popularized by group performances, Hip-Hop seemingly has become devoid of duos and trios; every artist is riding solo nowadays but “Those Chosen” are the exception to the rule. Recognized as an avant-garde group, their “street influenced, politically fueled” narratives push the boundaries of Hip-Hop’s status quo.

Reminiscent of 90s’ groups like A Tribe Called Quest and Black Sheep, the Los Angeles-based trio consists of Foreshadow, Kornbread and Japetto. Together, their music resembles the sounds of the genre’s Golden Era with new millennium swag.

Those Chosen have garnered the attention of industry suits and fans alike with live performances on MTV2 and national music festivals. Their recent collaborations with Hip-Hop legend Slick Rick and Grammy Award-winning producer IZ Avila of the Avila Brothers has solidified their status on the independent level.

Scribe Culture recently had the opportunity to sit down with the L.A. trio where we discussed their mixtape with DJ Mick Boogie, early influences and performing at the One World Hip Hop Championships.

DJ Lethal

According to People magazine, law enforcement sources are reporting that Adam Goldstein, better known at DJ AM, had eight undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach and a ninth in his mouth when his body was recovered from his SoHo apartment last month.

Goldstein, who’s also a recovering addict, apparently barricaded himself inside his apartment by propping up two mirrors against the front door. A crack pipe and crack were found near his body.

The source says AM was going unconscious when he took the last pill, thus the lone pill found in his mouth.

In addition, the source reports that a Valentine’s card was found in the apartment from ex-girlfriend Hayley Wood, saying “Thank God you’re in my life. I love you.” Several photos of the former couple were also found next to the card.

An official cause of death has not yet been determined.

Walk This Way

Hundreds of fans and supporters came out to pay rap’s most influential group, Run-DMC, homage yesterday in Hollis, Queens by renaming the intersection at Hollis Avenue and 205th Street to Run-DMC JMJ Way.

The celebration was a heartfelt tribute for the trio’s fallen DJ, Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell, who was murdered inside his Queens’ studio in 2002. Comprised of Jam Master Jay, Joseph “DJ Run” Simmons and Darryl “D.M.C. McDaniels, Run-DMC introduced hip hop into the mainstream during the 80s, early 90s with commercial hits such as “Walk This Way” featuring Aerosmith and “Down with the King.”

Run-DMC has accomplished many firsts for hip hop, including being the first rap artists to have gold and platinum certified albums and to be nominated for a Grammy Award. The group was also induced into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year, becoming only the second hip hop group to receive the honor.

Now they are the only hip hop group to ever have a city street renamed after them.
