Based on the novel “Push” penned by Sapphire, the upcoming movie Precious is a drama about an obese, illiterate teenage girl who is emotionally and physically abused by her tyrannical mother, played by Mo’Nique.
Starring Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz and newcomer Gabourey Sidibe (Precious Jones), this flick does not sulk in the immobility of depression; instead, it focuses on the raw energy deriving from anger and hope.
Precious reveals her story through Daniels’ lenses with creativity, humor and intensity. Precious was the winner of the Dramatic Grand Jury and Audience Award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
The movie, which is presented by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, will be in selected theatres on November 6.
