Twenty-five years ago Michael Jordan laced up his first pair of Nike Air Jordans. Now, a quarter century later, His Royal Airness is releasing his 25th anniversary sneaker nationwide on February 13.
The most notable aesthetic on the 25th anniversary edition is a unique transparent thermoplastic urethane window, shaped as a basketball, providing extra flexibility and subconsciously representing MJ’s competitive psyche.
The sneaker is also designed with a hinged light-weight toe layer which adds strength to the sneaker without losing flexibility. These latest Air Jordans will come in the Chicago Bulls colorways.
Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade will be the first to debut the 25th anniversary edition at NBA All-Star Weekend in Dallas this February. Flash is Brand Jordan’s newest member, inking the guard to an endorsement deal after his departure from Converse.
”The celebration of the Air Jordan 2010 and our 25th anniversary are the pinnacle of a year full of milestones for me,” said Jordan in a statement.
Check out what Hatfield and Mark Smith, creative director for the Jordan Brand, had to say about the design and significance of the 25th anniversary Air Jordan.
Everyone remembers the McDonalds’ commercial where Michael Jordan and Larry Bird try to out duel each other in a game of “HORSE” by hitting impossible shots. Off the ceiling, one bounce, nothing but net, etc…
Well All-Star New Orleans point guard Chris Paul takes us down memory lane with one of his latest trick shots. Check out how CP3 shoots a jumper off a ceiling beam inside a Lafayette, La. gym.
By the way here is the Jordan versus Bird commercial.
Byron Russell has challenged Michael Jordan to a one-on-one, any time, any place. The challenge was issued after MJ singled-out the former Utah Jazz during his Hall of Fame induction speech last Friday.
During his induction speech, Jordan recalled a conversation he had with Russell after his first retirement in which Russell asked Jordan, “‘Why’d you quit? You know I could guard you. If I ever see you in a pair of shorts….’” Then in 1996, Jordan reminded Russell of his comment while at center court, Jordan recounted, “You remember the comments you made in 1994 about, ‘I think I can guard you, I can shut you down, I would love to play against you?’ Well, you’re about to get your chance.”
In response, Russell told Yahoo! Sports, “This is a call-out for him to come play me. He can come out here in his private jet and come play. He’s got millions of dollars. He can pay for the jet. He can meet me at the Recreation Center in Calabasas.”
I’d definitely pay to see this game on Pay-Per-View, first to 7 wins, but a safe bet would probably be MJ. Last time I checked, Russell was ringless.
The 2009 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame class is tremendous. All-time assists and steals leader John Stockton, 2-time champion David Robinson, Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and Rutgers University women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer are all a part of this year’s enshrinement class.
However, we’ve buried the lead because you always have to save the best for last – Michael Jordan – the greatest professional basketball player to don an NBA jersey is also heading to Springfield, MA to join his peers on September 12.
We all know about your royal Airness’s accolades: 14-time NBA All-Star, five-time NBA MVP, Defensive Player of the Year (1988), nine-time All-Defensive Team member and – of course – six-time NBA champion and Finals MVP.
Jordan was simply amazing!
With his awe-inspiring feats and triumphant statistical accolades, Scribe Culture wanted to pay tribute to the best hoops player ever. We’ve compiled what we believe are MJ’s greatest moments in the Association, starting with the Chicago Bulls drafting him in 1984.
What is better than having his airness, 6-time NBA champion and recent Hall of fame inductee Michael Jordan, actually appearing at his Michael Jordan Flight School basketball camp? Perhaps bringing Denver Nuggets small forward Carmelo Anthony.
Jordan and ‘Melo, who’s also a member of Team Jordan, shoot it out in a game of “Around the World” with some aspiring young ballers looking on in awe. Take a look at the video… and yeah, MJ still has it!
