A crowded U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. was the site of a shooting today when an elderly gunman entered the museum with a rifle and opened fire wounding a security guard before being shot.

Authorities said that the elderly man began discharging round immediately upon entering the museum. The shoot, who is in critical condition, has not been identified but authorities believe he is a white supremacist.

The museum draws over a million and a half visitors annually and has a heavy security presence at all times both inside and outside the building. According to the AP, law enforcement officials are investigating whether James Von Brunn, a repuited white supremacist, was involved somehow in the incident.
